All pieces of work will begin with an initial assessment. The duration of this meeting will be between 1 and a half hours to two hours long. Within this session, we will discuss a variety of different things including:

-
Learning about your young person and their history
-
The behaviours you see at home, when they happen, and in what contexts they happen in.
-
Any risks at home, and how these are currently being managed.
(If necessary, we will also support you to put a risk reduction plan in place whilst we undertake the assessment to reduce any dangers that current behaviours present to themselves or to others.)
Alongside gathering information, we will also use this time to collect questionnaires and goals from you to help us to track our progress formally. Goals will be set to ensure that they are SMART in nature (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely) and to ensure that we are all working towards the same outcome.

It will be really important to try and hear your young person's voice during this meeting. Therefore we ask - if appropriate -that the young person either joins the meeting for all, or at least part of it, so we can hear their views. It is also important for us to hear the young person's voice around what they wish their goals to be for our work with each other so that we can get their assent with what we are doing. However, you know your young person best so if this is something your young person would find distressing in any way, we will work in partnership with you to find alternative ways to hear your young persons voice.
